English Language Course (B1.2)

Course: 204 academic hours
Study period: 14. September 2026 – 25. May 2027

Course Volume and Structure

The course comprises 204 academic hours, including:

  • 102 academic hours of classroom instruction

  • 102 academic hours of independent and practical study

The course is delivered through face-to-face classes. Independent study includes listening activities, reading tasks, workbook activities, vocabulary consolidation, grammar practice, writing assignments, and preparation for discussions and oral presentations.

Target Group and Entry Requirements

The course is intended for adult learners wishing to develop their English language proficiency to CEFR B1 level.

Participants are expected to have English language proficiency at CEFR A2+ level. Entry level is assessed through a written placement test and an oral interview evaluating all four language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Course Aim

The aim of the course is to develop learners’ English language proficiency to CEFR B1 level, enabling them to communicate confidently and effectively in everyday, educational, and workplace contexts.

Language of Instruction

The language of instruction is Russian.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be able to:

  • participate confidently in conversations on familiar topics;

  • express and justify their opinions, ask for clarification, and respond appropriately in discussions;

  • understand the main ideas of extended spoken and written texts on familiar topics;

  • write clear, well-structured texts, including emails, descriptions, and short opinion texts;

  • use B1-level vocabulary and grammatical structures accurately and appropriately in spoken and written communication.

  • First Conditional and future time clauses (when, until, as soon as)

  • Second Conditional

  • Contrasting the First and Second Conditionals

  • Gerunds and infinitives

  • Reported Speech (statements and questions)

  • Third Conditional

  • Quantifiers

  • Relative clauses (defining and non-defining)

  • Question tags
